Holiday Ornament Blog Hop

Welcome to the first annual Holiday Ornament Swap and Blog Hop!!! I'm so excited that you stopped by for a visit!
Hop details were simple, you had to create an ornament using at least one art bead and send it to your hop partner and then blog about it!
My partner for the Ornament Swap Hop is Kim Hora of Kimmy Kats!
Below is the ornament that I sent her.

Hand stamped hammered washer "Let Is Snow"

One of Sue Beads lampworked beads and a ceramic bead enameled in Horizon blue

I knew right away that I wanted to use the ceramic snowflake from Karen Totten of Starry Road Studio, so I started with that and worked out the rest of the design as I went! I chose blues and ivories as the color palette and I just knew that the oxidized copper would pull the whole design together. I think the the ornament has a very wintry rustic feel! I packaged it up and sent it on it's way hoping Kim would like it as much as I did! I then waited patiently (Ha!) for Kim's creation to arrive!

and below are the ornaments (Woot! I'm a lucky girl!) that the lovely Kim of Kimmy Kats sent to me: They are BEAUTIFUL! I love that she used snowflakes too! All sparkly and just look at the beautiful beaded bead she made for each ornament!! I love them!! They are hanging from my Christmas tree where they catch the light beautifully!!

AND LOOK!!! There was an extra special surprise in the package!!

She sent me one of her spoon ornaments!! I love her spoon ornaments and the little boy on the ornament looks just like my "little man"!! So adorable!

When I was opening the package, "my little man" was helping and when he saw the little boy on the spoon he said,"Mommy! Look! It's a little boy just like ME!!

He's taken possession of the ornament and of course had to be the one to hang it on the tree!! He also shows everyone the tree and that ornament because there is a little boy on it, just like him!!

Art Bead Scene Holiday Ornament Blog Hop

I started with a simple clasp and added a "S" link where I tied a thin navy blue gold trimmed ribbon

next came a few glass beads, the bluish lampwork glass beads are from Radiant Mind Beads and the beautiful creamy lampwork glass bead in the middle is from Sue Beads (Sue is as lovely as her wonderful beads are!)

I then added a blue glass beads and handcrafted a christmas-ish tree from copper wire that I patina-ed with a small torch, you can kinda see the rainbow effect from the heat.

When I signed up for the hop I knew I had to incorporate an Art Bead but the rest of the design came later, as I was at a bead show on Sunday and got a reminder email from Heather about the hop and realized,
Oh! That's this week isn't it!?!
Time just got away from me!
I still can't believe that we are already into December!
It's funny, some of what I think are pretty good ideas come to me under pressure or in the wee hours of the morning!

When do you get your best ideas?

Bangle Bracelet done in RAW

I was drawn to the beading needle this week, it must of been all the seed beads I was around this weekend! So Monday afternoon I sat down to bead weave...... It was wonderful!

I made a bangle bracelet in right angle weave. It is composed of gold seed beads and Swarovski crystals.

I Heart Macro!

I don't know about you but for the past two week I had a time trying to keep my head above water! BUT as of today I am done with all of my craft shows for this year and only have two more custom orders to finish!! *sighs of relief* At the beginning of November, I was so overwhelmed and never thought that I would make it to the end in one piece, I DID!! YAY!!

The above photos were all taken this week.... yes the black eye susan were blooming and there were a few flowers on the hydrangeas that didn't change yet. I live in northeast Pennsylvania and we're in the beginning of December! These flowers should be finished! Nonetheless, I will take the warmer weather as long as Mother Nature wants to keep it here!!

Color Challenge

Purple is not a color that I work with very often, but it's a color challenge, so I picked the lovely color purple and then immediately panicked! Once I pulled myself together and took a few breaths I realized that I didn't really have any purple in my bead box. I did find beads in Honeysuckle from Sue Beads, a pendant from Lynn Davis and then got to work enameling a few beads in different shades of...PURPLE!!

So thrilled to see Friday.....this week been a long and chaotic one!

I am finding that lately my jewelry is a reflection of my environment! Hence, I created "chaos of circles" earrings. I have also been noticing that lately everything I am producing has some type of circle in the design! Hmmmm! Strange?

Wrapped Up

I've been so wrapped up lately in what feels like a hundred approaching deadlines. Every time I feel I'm making head way the other shoe drops and I'm six steps (large stairway steps) behind! With the time constantly ticking, the holiday's are fast approaching and I am finding myself sinking into an abyss of craft shows, challenges and obligations. I have a tendency to bite off large amounts and realize later that I should just politely nibble! I'm sure most of you are feeling the same way and I know I'm not alone. I envy those who appear so organized, but I have learned that sometimes appearance is one thing and inside is another.

Fitting that I would sit down at the jewelers' bench and need to wrap, I mindless picked up some beads and wire and let my mind guide my hands, "Wrapped Up" was created and my head is a little more clear (must be from all the hammering).

Wire and metal are comforting in my hands and therapy to my soul. I still feel like I am walking into a strong wind, but I WILL KEEP walking!

How is everyone else feeling as the Holiday Season begins?

I Heart Macro! a broken bead

Bisque beads are from Marla James of Bisque Bead Supply

Then we had an incident occur:
I had enameled a lentil bisque bead in the pretty opalescence green and after the bead cooled I left it on my bead mat because it was late and I was tired, I would start the bracelet tomorrow. I just left the bead on the bead mat and went to bed. You would think a bead would be safe on a soft bead mat, Right? Wrong!
I woke up to this:

I immediately called The Husband at work, this was important, it's a broken bead after all. I inquired if the bead was on the bead mat broken when he came downstairs this morning. The answer was, yes the bead was broken but it was on the floor, he had picked it up and put it back on the mat. Okay, how did it get on the floor? Enter the suspect, a.k.a. Lola Meow!

God forbid! I forgot that the bead mat is her's and apparently she DID NOT like the idea of sharing the soft microfiber fleece of the mat with a lowly bead.

She is trying to look innocent, BUT when taking all of the evidence into consideration we suspect that in the dead of night she paw slapped the bead off the mat where it probably bounced off the refrigerator and suffered a horrible fall onto the ceramic tile! That is where the poor little lentil bead met it's end with one swift crack, slicing it's body in two! A gruesome screen!

We do have a witness but we believe his life has been threatened by the suspect. He's not talking!

It's bad enough that after this photo was taken that it was noticed that he needed his nails trimmed! The torture!

Enameled Cubes GIVEAWAY!!!

I had a few moments to myself yesterday and decided to spend it enameling some beads. I find enameling so relaxing and love to just sit and spin beads in the torch's flame! I sat down at the torch with the intent to enamel some beads for Jennifer of Soul's Fire Design s

and then finish cleaning my jewelry bench, make some jewelry and clean the house. Well, one thing lead to another and needless to say, no jewelry got made, but.........

I know, I know! It's only the end of October and we are enjoying warm apple cider, carving pumpkins and putting the finishing touches on Halloween costumes, but you are going to blink and the Holiday season will be in a full frenzy of tinsel and lights! So, let's get started.

DETAILS of the OS/BH:

*Once you sign up for the OS/BH you will be paired with another participant and be responsible for making ONE ornament.

*The ornament must be handcrafted by you (NO STORE BOUGHT ORNAMENTS), and please just make sure it is your best work.

You are not required to buy the Art Bead, you can make and use your own handcrafted Art Bead. (I was going back and forth with this and I know the ornament in the badge doesn't have an Art Bead in the design, and I wish I would of used one, but I think it is important to support independent artists and buy handmade, especially during the holiday season.)

I Heart Macro! (and giveaway winners)

I went with a few girlfriends to the local teahouse for there annual Halloween Tea, it was a spooktacular experience!

Look! I actually took a picture of myself, and posted it! I posted the photo because it gives that vibe of an old Alfred Hitchcock movie with the grainy image and direct stare. What do you think? (Film Noir! Thanks guys! The word escaped me this morning.)

We all had a scary good time!

This is the portion where I was hoping to show you pictures of the hayride and pumpkin picking and other Fall activities that we were going to do on Saturday, but that didn't happen because Mother Nature had another plan for us:

SNOW!! Around 6 inches or so of heavy wet snow!

Best part of the snow? Watching the plow trucks while standing in the window.

Even Lola was interested in the snow! Well, the leaves blowing across the snow.
For some reason she thinks she's suppose to attack them!
